The Osun State Government on Saturday announced the completion of a N16.5 billion dual carriageway and 10 township roads within the Ilesa industrial corridors, aimed at stimulating economic growth, expanding business hubs, and supporting start-ups in the ancient city.
Speaking during an assessment visit, Director of Highways, Moruf Ojebode, said the road projects are part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s infrastructure-driven agenda to reposition Ilesa as a major commercial and industrial hub.
The improved 20-kilometre network, he explained, eases movement, enhances access to markets, and creates an enabling environment for investors and small-scale businesses.
Ojebode noted that Ilesa had never before seen a dual carriageway. “We now have a dual carriageway spanning from the palace of the Owa-Obokun to the Imo-International Brewery and the Ilesa–Akure expressway. The 6.2km road features walkways and solar-powered street lights,” he said. He added that the road passes through the city’s industrial corridor, transforming surrounding areas into thriving business hubs.
The completed township roads include Ademoroti, Ogbon Titun, Bonke, Ita Ofa, Atakunmosa Market, Imose, Adeti, Oke Ese, Ajimoko, and INEC roads.
Community leaders praised the interventions, describing them as transformative for Ilesa. Council Chairman of Ilesa West, Hon. Oladiti Aluko, urged residents to avoid activities that could damage the roads. Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, a community head, commended Governor Adeleke for his achievements and expressed support for a second term.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Abuja Park, Temitope Matthew, stated: “This road is beneficial to my members, and we are in full support of this government. We will vote massively for him in the 2026 gubernatorial election.”
