The Federal Government has disbursed a total of N2.45 trillion to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between March 2024 and August 2025 to support infrastructure development and security interventions nationwide.
The funds were earmarked to assist state governments in rehabilitating roads and bridges, improving educational and healthcare facilities, and strengthening security operations across communities.
The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, disclosed this in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @BwalaDaniel.
According to Bwala, the financial support is designed to enhance the delivery of critical services and infrastructure projects where citizens require them most.
He noted that federal assistance to subnational governments aligns with global best practices, explaining that countries such as the United States regularly provide funding to state and local governments to support infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public safety initiatives.
Bwala also cited India and other developed economies as examples where central governments deploy grants to regional authorities to facilitate major development projects and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
The presidential aide linked the intervention to the policy priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly the 2025 Budget of Restoration, which focuses on promoting peace, economic recovery, and national development.
He stated that the budget framework prioritises investments in security, infrastructure, health, and education, with emphasis on transparency, accelerated implementation of energy, transport, and public works projects, job creation, and improved living standards.
Bwala further stressed that sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments remains essential to achieving national development goals and ensuring improved welfare for citizens.
