Former presidential candidate, , has reaffirmed his commitment to the (ADC) after completing the revalidation of his membership, while urging opposition parties to unite in the fight against bad governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the call during the official flag-off of the party’s membership validation and registration exercise held in on March 8.
According to him, the exercise forms part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure and mobilize Nigerians toward building a credible political platform capable of delivering responsible leadership.
The former Anambra State governor noted that the process followed a historic gathering of prominent leaders from across the South-East which took place on December 31 in . The meeting brought together political leaders, intellectuals, and stakeholders from across Igboland to deliberate on the future of the region and encourage broader participation in the ADC.
Among those who attended the Enugu meeting were former governor of Enugu State, , and former lawmaker . Others included former Imo State governor , former governor of Imo State , and Senator .
Also present were notable political figures such as , , and , alongside several members of the National Assembly and various State Houses of Assembly.
Obi explained that the gathering reflected a growing consensus among South-East leaders on the need for unity and a common political direction aimed at advancing good governance in Nigeria.
At the Awka event, which attracted a wide range of political stakeholders, Obi disclosed that the gathering included two senators, five members of the National Assembly, six members of different State Houses of Assembly, and several other dignitaries.
Speaking during the programme, he called on opposition political parties across the country to set aside differences and work together to confront what he described as the challenge of bad governance.
According to him, the 2027 general elections would go beyond a conventional contest among political parties.
“The forthcoming election in 2027 will not merely be a contest between political parties; it will be a defining choice between the Nigerian people and bad governance,” he said.
Following the ceremony in Awka, Obi proceeded to his hometown of where he formally completed his membership validation in the ADC and encouraged supporters and Nigerians to participate actively in the process.
He stressed that meaningful change in the country can only occur through active civic and political participation, reiterating his belief that a better Nigeria remains achievable.
“The journey toward a New Nigeria that is possible continues,” Obi added.
